Michael Battle, Sr. Obituary

The Life of “BIG MIKE”

Michael Arminae Battle also known as "Big Mike" was welcomed with love as the third child of his parents Helen Battle and Sidney Battle on Feb 1st,  1955. He graduated from Perris High School in 1971, where he met and shortly thereafter married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Alice. From their love, they created 4 beautiful children. 3 boys: Michael, Marquis, Martel and 1 girl: Melissa.

Michael was raised in the Baptist church and was a man of God. He retained his faith until he went home to meet the Lord. He attended church with his wife, daughter and grandchildren at the Guiding Light Missionary Baptist Church of Perris, Ca.

Michael worked for The Temecula Fire Department for many years and then went to work as a Railroad Mechanic with TTX. He then retired from the railroad and devoted his time having fun and caring for his family. "Big Mike," as a young man was gifted with many talents. He was a football player at Perris High School, a mechanic, martial artist, guitarist, poet, and a singer. He was apart of the infamous family singing group “BattleZone” with his brothers. Micheal had a passion and extensive knowledge in holistic and horticulture medicine that will continue to be practiced by many. He enjoyed nature and loved talking about God's creation. He loved to teach others new things and was an avid learner.

"Big Mike" was favored by all. He showed up at every family function with a joke to tell followed by catch phrase that we all find ourselves saying today. His sayings such as “You’re Thru.. T-H-R-U-" "Shalom, Shalom, no Al Capone" and "This is America, but it ain't free!" were some of many. "Big Mike" always had a smile on his face and provided a listening ear. And if he couldn't provide a solution to your problem, he would politely let you know "you better stop talking to Bob and take it up with God." He had the most infectious and charming personality that we will never forget. "Big Mike" was a truly one of a kind, you can always count on him. He was a father figure to most and didn't mind letting you know how much he loved and cared for you. The sky was the limit when it came to providing for the most important women in his life; his wife, his mother and his daughter. Raising his children and grandchildren brought him the utmost joy and happiness.

Michael "Big Mike" Battle was called home to be with the Lord on February 14, 2021. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Helen Olivia Battle & Sidney Battle. Brothers: John Rufus Williams Jr, James E. Williams, Billy Matthew, Theophilus Thaddeus Battle and sister: Latrina Woodberry.

To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife of 44 years Alice Holmes-Battle. Sons: Michael Battle Jr, Marquis Battle aka Najid Abraham, Martel Battle. Daughter: Melissa Battle.
