Robert Haley Obituary

In Loving Memory

Robert Curtis Haley was born on August 27th, 1943 to his parents Jim Haley and Essie Haley in Shreveport Louisiana.

Robert’s formative years were in South Los Angeles. He graduated from Compton High School and then went on to serve as a First- Class Airman in the U.S. Air Force from 1961-1970. Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he pursued further education at Long Beach City College where he received an Associate’s Degree in Science. In 1971, he began his career as a Welder at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard where he received numerous service awards. He retired from the Shipyard after 33 years of service.

Robert was a dedicated, loving, caring man to ALL of his family. Robert was known as “Daddy” to his children and “Curtis” to his siblings because there were two Roberts in the family.

Robert was very outspoken, not afraid to express his opinion, and was never afraid to say “NO”. In conversation you would often hear him say “That’s life in the big city” and if explaining something he would often begin with “Well, the thing of it is” which would make you laugh and forget what you were talking about.

Robert loved listening to Jazz music while playing Solitaire. He loved sports and everyone knew not to disturb him when he was sitting in his favorite chair, watching football or “Gunsmoke” one of his favorite shows.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving children-Rodney Dean, Darren Haley, Steven Haley, Christine Haley-Matthews, grandchildren-  Demicia Dean Todd, Rodney Dean Jr., Lakesha Dean Rachel, Quashanda Chapman, Shamarra Haley, Darren Haley Jr., Paris Haley, Sidney Haley, Viviana McNeil, Tierra Haley, Brian Haley, Dionte Williams, Dante Williams, Pierre Matthews Jr., Cierra Matthews. Robert also leaves behind his loving sister Linda Haley and brothers Billy Haley, David Haley, William Haley, 23 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He is preceded in death by daughter LaKeisha Haley, and ex-wife Lillian Haley, his parents Jim Haley and Essie Haley, brothers Jimmy Haley, John L Haley, Robert T Haley, Lee Haley, and Flonnie Thompson.
